Proteas Leaving for Italy

The South African national field target shooting team are leaving to participate in the annual World Field Target Championships in Velo d’ Astico on Monday (29 August).  Our Proteas have a proud track record of four silver medals in the team event over the five years that they have participated in the Worlds.  In addition to this, team members have won a number of medals in the individual categories.

The 2011 Protea team recorded the following firsts:

·         First junior in team – Francois du Toit from WP;

·         First spouses – Gerhard and Lynn Strydom of Heidelberg;

·         Two ladies in team of eight – Lynn Strydom and Natali Terblanche (Free State).

Field Target shooting is a relatively new outdoor sport in South Africa, and is practised by young and old.  Drop-when-hit targets are shot at with air rifles over distances of between 10 and 50 meters.

225 shooters from 27 countries have entered for this year’s Worlds.  We wish the Protea team all success with their participation in Italy.
